Many factors, however, influence how long you can estimate the lifetime of your appliance:
- The cleaning you perform on your appliance
- The overall quality of the appliance you have
- The type of appliance
- The use of the appliance (example, a fridge is always running but you might use your washing machine once a week)
Refrigerators and Freezers
Clean the condenser coils and the fans regularly. They are usually located on the back of the fridge or at the bottom of the front of the fridge. If your coils are dirty, your fridge and freezer are working harder to keep your food cold. Check the seal gasket to see if there are air leaks or cracks in order to prevent temperature losses.
Oven
Keeping your oven clean will actually help it to run more efficiently. Make sure there is no break in the seal because your oven may be working too hard and losing heat. Take a look at the closed oven door and see if you can see any gaps between the main oven and the door seal.
Dishwashers
You should clean out the drain screens at the bottom of the dishwasher frequently to help ensure a good flow of clean water. Its also recommended to run the washer empty on the sanitize setting (or really hot) at least once every six months to kill bacteria. You may use the solution sold to clean it once every six months as well.
