Common Microwave Maintenance Tips

As any big appliances, your microwave oven needs regular care and maintenance to ensure it lasts and functions properly for as long as possible. You can even use your microwave instead of your oven sometimes to save energy. Newer models offer different features and can help you in your cooking tasks.

  • Clean the inside of your microwave frequently. As often as you clean your kitchen, you should make it a habit to always clean the microwave. Food particles and splatters will absorb some of the microwave energy while the unit is working. You should clean all spills to prevent the microwaves from overworking and not to damage it.

  • Use microwavable food containers in order to avoid plastic indigestion. They are specifically  identified such as plastic, ceramic or glass material. Some substances can melt, so be careful

  • Do not put metal containers or aluminum in a microwave. The unit is made to bounce off metallic materials and will cause uneven cooking. Inserting such items can permanently  damage the small appliance and can even cause fire or an explosion.
  • Ensu re that the door closes properly. The microwave ovens door keeps the radiation inside, so when the door seal doesn't close properly, it won’t cook or heat up your food.  Therefore, check that the door closes securely when you switch on the microwave.

  • Avoid putting liquids for too long. It can be a safety hazard if liquids are boiling inside. They can raise to a very high temperature that we don’t expect.

They might not look it but microwaves can be dangerous. Always be careful. You can receive a electrical shock from the components inside your microwave.
